Just when we thought we escaped the blistering cold weather in North Carolina by heading back to Florida last weekend, the warmth didn’t last long.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the temperature had fallen below 40 degrees for both days. This is a stark contrast to the 80-degree day we had for New Year’s when we spent the day at the beach.

But my family and I are not the only ones paying attention.

The cold snap has a lot of investors focusing on natural gas prices again, and whether or not to buy the rally the price has experienced over the last few weeks.

The short answer is no, you don’t want to buy natural gas prices yet.

The seasonal trend for natural gas prices doesn’t hit until late March or mid-April and lasts until almost July. Take a look:

Natural gas prices will no doubt be volatile as we approach the seasonal trend, as investors bet whether or not demand will outstrip supply. If you want to benefit from the frigid winter temperatures, though, it’s proven to be a better bet to wait until after winter, and then ride the prices higher.
